Our CredentialsSea Spray's staff members, over the last 25 years, have used the outdoor environment in Cape Breton's Northern Highlands, for: Hiking: both inside and outside Cape Breton Highlands National Park. We know the trails because we hike the trails; Road biking: staff members not only bike the Cabot Trail, some have biked it in a single day; We'll give you information on direction, prevailing winds, sidetrips, traveling times, good Inns and B&B's and where to watch for moose. Mountain biking: we not only bike the trails here, but have been involved in laying some of them out and supervising the cutting and clearing. We'll tell you which are best-suited for your ability, from hard-core biker to beginning off-road tourer .. and which trails are not worth riding at all; Trail running: We run the trails, and can tell you about trail surfaces, running times, heart rate zones and scenery. We'll even rent you a heart-rate monitor for demo purposes; Kayaking: We love this sport, so we can talk about put-ins, haul-outs, scenic harbours for bird watching, coastal routes for whale watching, areas to avoid, and local organized tours and rental operations; Wind surfing: We'll tell you where the wind is steady, and where it's gusty, and great beaches for launchings and landings. Our staff members have years of board sailing experience; Road running: While we prefer trails to pavement, we have also organized road teams for the Cabot Trail Relay, held annually in May. (This 17-leg round-the-Trail race is one of the highlights of the Atlantic Provinces road racing season.) Sea Spray's staff and friends participate annually in this event; Cross country skiing: It's our passion, and in northern Cape Breton we know what's best, from groomed trails to back country to telemark ... and a few new twists to the sport. We do it all, both competitively and as tourers. Snow Shoeing: We use the snowshoes to take us touring, or to access the high country for skiing or for working in the woods. We offer "demo tours" using shoes from companies such as Tubbs, Crescent Moon, Faber, Morpho, Sherpa, and Snowalker. We'll give you a tour and let you sample all the shoes from our fleet...all in the world's most beautiful testing ground. Sea Spray's staff possess extensive experience in all of these activities, and we can steer you in the right direction, whether in the tracks, on the trail, in the back country or through the mountains. We can rent you skis, snow-shoes or, better yet, we can provide guides to take you to the best scenery, snow or moose photos. Come early spring, we will ski or snow-shoe you through the hardwoods to a maple syrup operation and, after learning about sappin', you can sample fresh maple toffee in the snow. Winter in northern Cape Breton is our pride, and we love to show it off! Sea Spray staff has been involved in two outdoor documentaries, a mountain biking segment for Outdoor Life, and a road biking episode for Womens Television Networks. Our staff members have also been involved in skiing, snowshoeing and cycling shots for the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism and Enterprise Cape Breton's promotional pieces.
