Our Guided Kayak Tours

In a region "...where the mountains meet the sea...", a popular method of exploring is by participating in a guided kayak tour.  The Northern Cape Breton  region benefits from a varety of kayaking opportunities, from large sheltered harbours to cliffside paddling in the Atlantic.  Sea Spray takes advantage of this diverse shoreline to offer both introductory and intermediate guided tours to visitors of most ages and abilities.

  • Our half-day introductory tours combine on-beach instruction and equipment orientation with scenic guided paddling in the large, island-studded harbours, sheltered from the Atlantic by long, deserted barrier beaches.  The gentle routes we employ on our introductory tour make it an ideal family activity.  Our minimum age for children is ten years.
  • Our half-day intermediate tours explore routes along the cliffs and beaches of the Atlantic ocean.

    We use our “Client Assessment Form” as the basis for our evaluation of our clients’ abilities and interests, and follow up with emailed or telephone conversations to make certain that we’re planning the best tour for our groups.  We’re able to offer this level of customization because we have such a variety of trails and routes at our disposal.

    During such tours we:

    • visit shorebird nesting areas where the current year’s downy hatchlings scamper;
    • learn about the local mussel and oyster aquaculture and observe this fishery in action;
    • visit and photograph bald eagle perches, and
    • search for occasional moose lounging along the shoreline.

  • On our intermediate tours, which require previous paddling experience in enclosed kayaks with spray skirts, we review paddling and rescue basics, and then embark upon a guided ocean tour, during which we:

    • explore seabird nesting sites in the shoreline cliffs,
    • lunch on a deserted beach or in a quiet cove, and
    • keep an eye peeled for our resident ealges and whales.

All our half-day tours include stops on islands, beaches and in sheltered coves, and some special surprises as well.

Be certain to leave time in your trip to allow us to introduce you to this wonderful activity.
